Frosty, Foggy Day at Cleethorpes. Day two, Peoples Park.

This is the last of the foggy/frosty/cold series of pictures.

Peoples Park is in Grimsby, Lincolnshire and was donated to the people of Grimsby.  See below.

People's Park is a lovely example of a Victorian Park; it was first opened on 17th August 1883. The land for the park was donated by Lord Heneage in 1881, William Barron won a competition to design the park, and this design is still mostly intact today.

Frosty, Foggy Day at Cleethorpes. Central Promenade & Pier Gardens. (Part 2 of 2)

This part of the walk is on the Central promenade and the Pier Gardens.

Part of the illuminations, this piece with Mickey Mouse is relatively modern.  It replaced another
one which, when I was a kid, all locals called "The Man in the Moon!"

Looking back to the south end of the resort with the Leisure Centre in the distance.

A very similar view to the previous shot but taken from the top of "High Cliff".  Only a small hill
really but the nearest thing to high ground we can boast about in Cleethorpes!
Central and South Prom on the left & the Kingsway to the right.

Looking in the opposite direction and there is a pleasant walk through the Pier Gardens.
Cleethorpes has won several awards in the "Britain in Bloom" contest in the last few years.

Ross castle with the pier in the background.  I wrote about Ross Castle in an earlier blog so
I wont bore you with it all again.  Suffice to say that it brings back fond childhood memories
and you can't say you are Cleethorpes born & bred unless you ran up to the top of
Ross castle when you were a child!

Part of the Cleethorpes heritage Walk.

Nice lighting on the paving slabs.

The light was starting to fade here.

Morning stroll at Cleethorpes and time to enjoy what the visitors miss in the summer.

This bus stop was nowhere near the Promenade but on my way home I couldn't resist taking it!

Frosty, Foggy Day at Cleethorpes. Kingsway (Part 1 of 2)

For a break from the usual villages and shops I went out last week when we had some very frosty, very cold and foggy mornings.  This set was taken along the Kingsway which which runs parallel to the promenade and beach at Cleethorpes.

The Kingsway, Cleethorpes on a very frosty morning.  This is one of several Victorian shelters
along the Kingsway.  They afford shelter all year round, even in summer when on sunny
days we often get a chilly sea breeze.

Looking further along the Kingsway  you can see the blocks of modern appartments
that have been built in recent years.

Down on the South promenade below the Kingsway.  In the distance is the Leisure Centre and
over the wall to the left is the beach.  On a clear day there are nice views across the Humber
Estuary to the Yorkshire coast.  Not today thought!

From the same position (I just spun around) with the sun behind me there is quite a good view
along the South Promenade and beyond to the Central Promenade and the pier.

Back on the Kingsway and one of the Victorian shelters.  They were renovated several years
ago and brought back to how they might have originally looked.  Unfortunately the vandals
did their worst and they are now looking a bit tired.  The next image illustrates the point!

One broken glass and another missing!
I couldn't show the graffiti as it was
too explicit!

Further along the Kingsway and this lad was late for school!

Waiting for the next bus.

Part 2 of 2 will appear very soon.
