A few pictures taken in Cleethorpes, Grimsby and the surrounding area. I live in Cleethorpes and Grimsby is alongside without any differential to see when you have crossed over into the other town. Grimsby was once the largest fishing port in the world and my father was a Chief Engineer sailing out of Grimsby on the deep water trawlers.

This buildings was for many years the offices & showroom of the Yorkshire Electricity Board,
better known as the YEB. That was before privatisation split up all the consumer service
providers. Now it has a fancy dress shop in the front of the premises. A lovely old Art Deco
building. This photo taken with an old 2MP Nikon Compact. |

A well known landmark in Cleethorpes, the Winter Gardens holds many memories for a lot of
people. Famous for it's Wednesday night dances known locally as "The Bags Ball"!
Unfortunately it was demolished several years ago to make way for a new luxury apartment
development. However they hadn't reckoned on the financial crash and it is now a piece of wasteland
and it's only use now is as an all day car park.

Another view of the Winter Gardens with a block of luxury apartments adjacent to it,
similar to what was proposed for this site. |

This anchor was left on the South Quay of Grimsby's fish dock, probably dredged up by a fishing vessel. |

This is the "Ice Jetty" where fishing boats berthed to have their "ice rooms" filled with ice via the
large overhead chutes that can be seen reaching over the roofs of the Pontoon buildings.
They carried the ice over the adjacent road and roofs from the "Grimsby Icehouse", now derelict. |

"Amy Howson" & "Comrade", 2 Humber Keelboats berthed at South Ferriby and operated by
The Humber Keel & Sloop Preservation Society. With my son I enjoyed a full day out on the
Amy Howson a few years ago on a sailing trip down the Humber Estuary.
