Tennyson County, Part 2, Somersby, (birthplace of Tennyson.)

The village of Somersby is in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds and is where the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson was born.
It's little more than a few houses and the church but attracts people coming to see where he was born.

St. Margaret's Church in the village of Somersby.

The south side and entrance.

The visitor can see how the church has been altered over the years by the mix of stone
and later brickwork.  Repairs to the roof were in progress at the time this was taken.

Interior of the church.

The view from the South entrance.  Over on the left you can see an impressive bust.

A bust of Tennyson on a carved wooden plinth.

Tennyson.

Below the bell tower inside the church is a very comprehensive
exhibition showing the life and times of Tennyson and a history
of his family.  Below I've enlarged the two pieces of information
shown on this image, they show the main points in the life of Tennyson.
(IT'S WORTH CLICKING ON THESE IMAGES FROM THE
EXHIBITION TO READ THEM MORE CLEARLY.)
I've only reproduced two of the main pages on display.

More pictures from Somersby will follow in the next posting.
